New Beginnings in April

New Beginnings in April

Today marks the day that many of our Covid-related restrictions are lifted. Gyms, shops and outdoor coffee shops, restaurants and beer gardens. For many that will mean a visit to the hairdresser, beauty salon and a much-missed beer or wine with a friend in an actual venue.

Whilst some may be chomping at the bit and ready to rush out there, for others it may still feel like a step too far. After being so restricted for many months how are you feeling about today’s ‘new normal’?

New Moon in April

Not just a date in the dairy, today coincides with April’s New Moon. New Moons have the energy of ‘renewal’ – new starts – that feeling that the old has passed and we can look forward to new beginnings. Coinciding as it does with nature beginning to throw itself into new leaves, spring flowers and longer hours of daylight, today – without the added excitement of our enforced ‘new start’ – is full of joyful, optimistic energy. Are you feeling it?

Are you feeling it?

In the excitement and rush of all around us it may be easy to get caught up in the whirlwind. That feeling where so much is going on all around and you lose a sense of stability. In our yoga practice this week we will be focusing on those ‘new beginnings’ but with a sense of staying grounded. Classes are still on zoom daily at 8am as well as our weekly Wednesday morning class.

Staying grounded with Dru Yoga

In yoga when we talk about ‘staying grounded’ we take time to appreciate our connection with the Earth, the air we breathe and our physical body. Many of our Dru yoga sequences and postures are excellent for doing exactly that. In addition we encourage you to get out in nature when you can – a walk in the fresh air at lunchtime or an evening stroll in local countryside. Even better, taking the time to removes shoes and socks and stroll barefoot in the sand or on the earth. Nature has a wonderful energy which will ground you.

Outdoor Dru Yoga in Whitley Bay

Over the next months, as the weather warms up, I will be leading a few different outdoor yoga experiences. From beach yoga (on the sand – no mat required) to woodland walks (tree hugging optional) in and around Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, I invite you to join me for some truly fabulous outdoor Dru yoga.
