Dru Yoga and Stress

Dru Yoga and Stress

It’s commonly accepted that yoga is a useful tool for dealing with stress – but what is stress – and how exactly does a Dru Yoga practice help?

Stress

Stress covers a wide range of impacts on the body. From the things that enter your physical body such as the food you eat, the substances you drink, the air you breath, the noises you listen to all the way to the mental pressure of relationships or demands on you time – all have the effect of somehow damaging your body. To counter this stress a whole host of lifestyle changes can be considered. Dru yoga is a useful tool towards a healthier, stress-reduced lifestyle.

In Dru we acknowledge that stress in whatever format has an impact on the body. Stress causes physiological damage at a cellular level and the effects of stress can be felt in many subtle ways: from aches in the lower back, pains in the neck, shoulder stiffness – the list goes on. If now dealt with these pains embed themselves in the physical body and become chronic (long-term rumbling pains).

Energy Block Releases

The Dru yoga tradition is built around a series of sequences we call ‘Energy Block Releases’. These sequences form the basis for many of our classes and are designed to ease out the joints and body discomforts – this releasing the stress which no longer needs to be there.

Yoga is Life

Of course we acknowledge that yoga is more than simply a series of postures, flows and breathing. Yoga is an attitude, a way of life, if you will. We aim to go with the flow of life; to acknowledge the events of life and take from those the lessons, letting any stress or unneeded emotions wash over us. In Dru we always include a deep relaxation in the class – where we allow the stillness created by our flowing yoga to settle and embed itself in the body; perhaps replacing that tension that came with us into the class.

A Dru yoga class will leave you feeling lighter in spirit: calmer yet energised: A regular Dru Yoga practice will also impact your stress levels on a far deeper level. We will resume our Dru Yoga classes face-to-face in mid-May. In the meantime join us online for your Dru Yoga fix.
