A WOMAN OF MY AGE

About health and mindset over 50.

Ageing can be a hazardous affair. Even when we do our best and feel great in our body, the media presents us with celebrity pictures of women of our age – and older -looking way more glamourous that we can envisage for ourselves; let alone what we actually see in our real-life mirrors! One of the advantages of age, of course, is the perspective that all we see in the media is not as real as is presented – but we are not immune to the occasional ‘how does she do that?’ moment!

Staying in shape takes more time and effort than it did 30 years ago – but staying in shape allows me to fully be present in this body – the same body I tortures d and hated in my teenage years has given birth 4 times and is still going strong. But it’s not something I take for granted – it’s a deliberate daily set of habits that keeps me grateful for all that it gives me.

The habits

Yoga daily – to yoga is to connect. Moving mindfully with the breath is a beautiful daily practice and connects the physical to the mind effortlessly. For classes in Whitley Bay go here.

Meditate regularly – meditation is a key life skill – how often have you heard that all the world’s most successful people meditate daily? As a Dru Meditation teacher I can offer classes locally.

Lift heavy and often – High intensity workouts including shifting heavy weights needs good instruction for excellent technique – but for the body, helps prevent osteoporosis and keeps the body moving optimally. For 1:1 training contact me here.

Intermittent fasting – has been shown to allow the body a daily reset. I aim for a routine of 16 hours fasting and 8 where I can eat – quite do-able once you get in the flow!

Regular sleep – simple, maybe boring: less of the disco nights and more of the early nights in bed. Because it matters.

Listen to your body – feed it what it really wants: diet not more – just listen to what your body wants – and notice how it feels when you give it that. Your body has wisdom – use it.

Walk the dog – or just walk. Time in nature – in the woods or the beach. Makes your heart sing as you get in touch with nature.

Drink water – the right sort. Not tap water. Filter or distil it – and re-energise with intention. Further blog to follow on the power of water.

Supplement well – food alone doesn’t cut it – particularly as you get older and the body perhaps doesn’t absorb and utilise as well as it used to. Cellular function alters and may need a boost. Try NAD supplement, Nrf2, Vitamins C,D plus zinc and magnesium. For starters. Contact me here for direction.

Gratitude and the benefit of positive mindset – you get more of what you focus on. Make it good stuff!

A Woman of my age

A woman of my age has as much right to health, fitness and wellbeing as a woman of any age. My body has given life to 4 individuals and supported me through the ups and downs of life and now it’s time for me to nurture it so we can life in harmony and health for the years to come.
