Winter Woodland Walks

Winter Woodland Walks in Whitley Bay

I’m looking forward to finally getting around to organising some delicious woodland walks in and around Whitley Bay. Watch this space for dates.

Mindfulness

Whilst it is, of course, delightful to walk with friends and chat, it’s equally delightful to walk (alone of with friends) and pay attention to the moment. Walking mindfully is an invitation to observe all around you and even all inside you.

Our winter woodland walks include all of that.

Time to meet up with like minded souls ready to explore the beautiful outdoors in a mindful way. Starting with a short walk to our ‘mindful start point’ – a time to chat and connect with your fellow travellers.

And Breathe..

Once we hit the trail we take a breath and walk. Take a few minutes to settle into the body – feel the feet, the surface below you, the legs – how is your posture? Observing the hands, the head, the face – and breathe.

Stop. Listen – what can you hear – perhaps the leaves rustling in the wind, perhaps the rain gently falling on the trees, perhaps the flow of a nearby stream or the sound of the woodland creatures?

Stop. Feel – what can you feel – perhaps the wind on your face, perhaps rain?

Stop. Look – what can you see – perhaps the pattern of sunbeams passing through the tree, perhaps leaves falling, perhaps seasonal fruits brightly draw your attention?

Absorb those sights, sounds and feelings with the joy of a child feeling those for the first time.

Walking again. Noticing different aspects of the self.

The body – how is it enjoying this time? Are you warm? Cold?

The breath – are you breathing more deeply, more freely – full of energy?

The thoughts – lets go with a beginner’s mind and really be in the moment.

The mind – have your thoughts settled into the here and now?

Are we feeling more joy, perhaps?

We’ll stop in a beautiful spot and enjoy some mindful movement. We’ll salute the earth, the water, the element of fire, air and space. And we’ll walk with a joyful, relaxed calm back to our start point. How does that feel?
