Face Yoga

Face yoga – the course

I’ve been busy putting together a face yoga course – I’ve deliberated for a good while, but ultimately I decided to go for it ..

I’m going to assume you’re interested in this face yoga series because you want to move, tone and shape your face. The exercise part is often the part that attracts people to trying a yoga class.

Before I put this course together I had to justify to myself why I wanted to call it face yoga not face exercises – I am a yoga teacher after all.

If we haven’t met then you might want to know where I’m coming from..

Why Face Yoga?

I’m Amanda – I graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Dental Surgery in 1986. For 30 years I worked in the NHS – most of that time in my own single-handed dental practice. I offered general dentistry, orthodontics for over 20 years – and facial aesthetics for over 10 years. (don’t add those up as that would make me about 90!)

Over the years I had the opportunity to observe the changes in people as they aged. Some who aged well and others who didn’t – some who took care of their health (and their teeth) and some who delegated their care to the professionals. I watched as those who tripped to the doctor with one single complaint often ended up, some years later, on a whole list of medication. And of course I watched the changes in peoples faces as they grew older and came to a few conclusions as to why some folk aged better than others.

It seemed obvious to me that whether it was general health or that of our teeth, that prevention is better than cure.

I began to study yoga towards the end of my time in dentistry – I’ve always bee a fitness fan and qualified as a personal trainer. face yoga seemed a natural progression – combining my knowledge of the face, time in aesthetics and dentistry with my love of all things yoga.

My biggest hope is that the current situation will encourage people to invest in their health – that more people will begin to take responsibility for the way their body responds to stress.

What is Yoga

And what elements of yoga can be translated to Face yoga

Yoga is – union of the body and mind using the breath. It incorporates lifestyle, movement, focus and meditation.

What is Face yoga?

Face yoga must therefore have the same guiding principles – lifestyle, movement, focus and meditation. All the basic elements of yoga practice can translate to face yoga – and this is what I hope to achieve in this series.

What will I learn?

You can look forward to some videos covering a bit of theory –

An understanding of how the face ages

The stages of facial ageing and what can be done to minimise adverse changes

The 3 keys for a youthful face

How to stay younger longer – a holistic view

Open to any other suggestions or input moving forward

Face Yoga – The Course

And videos showing movements and exercises to help tone and shape the face. This is very much a work in progress – thank you for coming along for the ride!
