WHAT IS DRU YOGA?

Dru is based on soft, flowing movements, controlled breathing and visualisation, it is both a graceful form of exercise and a potent means of stress relief.

With its foundations firmly in ancient yogic tradition, Dru Yoga is a style that had been passed down through generations, working on the body and the mind, strengthening core stability and building a heightened sense of positivity and empowerment.

Dru comes from the Sanskrit word ‘dhruva’ which refers to the stillness that can be reached through the movements and mediation. In this stillness we are able to sit back from anything that may be happening around us, thus seeing and acting from a point of clarity and inner calm.

In a typical Dru Yoga class you will experience:

Activation of the physical body – simple movements to free tension and enhance circulation.

Energy Block Release sequences – flowing sequences to release blocked energy in the joints and body systems, delivering a sense on freedom in movement and though.

Flowing postures and sequences – which help us to relate the rhythm and flow of life. Delivering grace and ease in movement and peace of mind.

Posture work – to gently work on the body to deliver specific outcomes (my yoga for back care program is an example of this).

Mudras – specific hand gestures which direct your energy for optimum efficiency.

The art of deep relaxation – this is a very important part of any yoga class, settling the mind and body after movement.

Concentration and meditation – these advanced skills are achieved with regular practice. Unfold your personal power through the art of sitting in stillness and silence.

A typical DrU Yoga class, WHITLEY BAY

The Dru Yoga class includes all or some of these aspects rolled together in a flowing and dynamic style. The nature of the movements themselves can lead to a peaceful meditative state.

The pace can vary from week to week but will always be tailored to the needs of the students in the room. Dru is suitable for all – from the complete yoga novice, those with injury or physical impairment – to the athlete who sees the need for rest and repair. If you are in doubt whether the class you are interested in will be suitable for you, please get in touch.

  1. Hello,
I would be interested in joining your yoga class at Whitley Bay next year (I will be available from end Jan) and think that your class might be ideal.
I do not have constant back pain but have quite a weak core and the slightest lifting causes twinges. I have done Hatha yoga for quite a few years until earlier this year when the class was finished and would be keen to start up again.
