Dru Yoga – a better start to the day
As the days get shorter and the temperature drops it’s not so easy to get out of bed and get moving. It’s on with a warm layer and straight on with the kettle. Hot lemon water is my first port of call – what’s yours?
The beginning
Often I think it would be nice to stay in those soft fluffy PJ’s for the day and just potter. But I’m committed to my 8am Dru Yoga class. These classes started in March 2020 when all of a sudden face-to-face classes weren’t an option and many found themselves suddenly working from home. The morning commute became than slump from the bedroom to the kitchen and work clothes were replaced by pyjamas of loungewear. My hope was that this class could form a bridge for those home-workers. I can credit my daughter for the inspiration – though she only actually attended a few times herself. But I can to love the routine myself- and continue to do so. Even though I’m often changing into something presentable and switching on with only 2 minutes to go I’m online via zoom and ready for 8am.
The class
The class starts with a warm-up – spinal movements to enliven the muscles and joints. To stretch and awaken the body and mind gently. Then we move onto a Dry Yoga flow – the Dru EBR’s, Earth Sequence, triangles, warriors – the options are endless! – often relating to events in the calendar or a sense of mood in the group. The New Moon, for example – or equinox, perhaps a general sense of calm or weariness. I enjoy making the content fresh and fun as well as aiming to present an uplifting start to everyone’s day.
The consequences
No matter what it is I always find my mood is lifted and my body runs smoother and more willingly after these sessions. I’m off the the gym for 930 and breakfast follows at 11am. A great start to a great day – always. Better, I think than when I have a lie-in at the weekend.
Join me
The lesson is clear. Those 20 minute 8am Dru Yoga sessions are indeed a better start to my day. Those friendly faces who join me over the week are my morning family. And even better – though I’m based in Whitley Bay in the North of England, no restriction from where in the world you care to join me! For information on joining please go here.
