Anatomy of a Dru Yoga class in Whitley Bay

Anatomy of a Dru Yoga class

A Dru Yoga class has a particular structure – an anatomy, if you will. You bring to the class your body and your busy mind, filled with the buzz of the day, your to-do list, your worries. You leave, having joined me in your journey,  with a relaxed body and mind; ready to go about your day with a refreshed sense of joy and optimism.

The warm-up

Physically the body needs preparing for the movements ahead – the Dru Yoga class starts with some simple physical body movements which loosen and warm the muscles, and which land the mind on the mat in preparation for our yoga class. We include movements of the spine in all directions and begin to connect the movement with the breath.

The warm up ends with a focus on body position – posture, awareness of where the body is. My aim is to persuade your body to stand and move better with less pain and more freedom.

Energy Block Release

The body stored emotional pain as physical pain – these sequences target those physical areas and release both the physical and emotional blockages. Simple to follow and learn – powerful to experience. These sequences are unique to Dru Yoga.

Flowing sequence

Sometimes we may work on a flowing sequence pertinent to the mood of the class – perhaps the Dru Water Sequence, designed to help you balance your emotions and ‘go with the flow of life’: or maybe the Dru Power Sequence, in which we call upon our inner strength and energies. The sequences are easy to follow and give the body a sensation of grace and flow.

Yoga Postures (asansas)

In Dru Yoga we begin the posture work (asana) by incorporating some stretching and body-preps. The aim of this part of the class is less about achieving the perfect Instagrammable posture and more about the intention of the posture. Modifications are always available so that this is achievable by everyone.

Cool down

Towards the end of the class we bring the movement and breathing down, focusing inwards on gentle body movements and breathing in preparation for relaxation.

Relaxation

Having moved the body we end the class with the relaxation that both the body and mind crave. It is said that Savasana (relaxation pose) is the hardest posture to maintain – stilling the body and mind for a period. The Dru Yoga class is the perfect preparation for your Savasana.

The Dru Yoga guided relaxation will leave you feeling totally blissed out and ready to go about your day with renewed energy and a better state of mind.
