Yoga retreats in Whitley Bay
I moved back to Whitley Bay in 2017 after living in Birmingham for 30 years. Nothing says ‘home’ more than the picturesque St. Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay – and I dreamed of hosting a yoga retreat on the island.
What’s special about St Mary’s Lighthouse?
St Mary’s Lighthouse is situated at the North end of Whitley Bay beach and lies just off the coast. It is joined to the mainland by a tidal causeway – which means that twice a day it is cut off from the mainland as the sea covers the causeway.
The retreats take place for the duration of the tide covering the causeway – hence we are ‘Stranded’ on the island.
As the tide comes in non-yoga visitors are asked to leave the island so that we have the island and the lighthouse to ourselves.
The event takes place in a function room above the shop. It is warm and comfortable. If the weather is good, we may opt to take part of the session outdoors – nothing beats the freedom of outdoor yoga: blue sky above, horizon at most aspects means endless possibilities.
The retreat comprises:
The event includes some time to walk around the island and appreciate its wild beauty and the sea life that lives there.
As the water levels recede and the session draws to a close, we watch the causeway reveal itself along with our path back to the mainland.
2 separate yoga sessions – each retreat has a different theme and the yoga will reflect that: for example – new start, summer vibes, winter solstice.
Deep relaxation – a key component of Dru yoga: remember to bring a cosy blanket for maximum benefit and relaxation.
Who is this aimed at?
These sessions are as much an experience as a yoga event: and a treat you won’t forget. No previous experience is required. They also make a perfect and unique gift. For details of the next event please refer to our events page or join me on Facebook.
Hi Amanda
You recently met my partner Michael at a business networking forum.
I am interested in bringing 2 or 3 girlfriends to one of your events at St Mary’s Lighthouse. 3 of us are pretty much beginners and one does regular weekly classes but is fairly new to this.
HI Wendy – I will email you
