Meditation Success
What is meditation – and how do you do it?
Meditation is, after all, the most talked-about technique in recent times. Focusing the mind and lauded by all from individuals seeking peace to high flying business-folk seeking success. If you’re not doing it, why not?
Meditation needn’t mean hours sitting in the lotus pose whilst you earnestly seek to still the busy mind – it can be a few minutes of regular practice.
Three essentials for meditation success
The three essentials for successful meditation are:
Gentle attention inwards. An inward focus and stilling of the busy mind. This can be aided by some gentle movement of the body and breath before coming to the posture you intend to meditate in. Some gently yoga in tune with the breath, perhaps?
A willingness to practice regularly. To sit and do the stillness. Nobody ever got good at anything without putting in the effort – having the intent and willingness to actually practise the skills.
Something to pay attention to – intently focusing on that thing and allowing all other thoughts to float by is the path to reaching that still point within.
Dru Meditation Class
In a Dru meditation class we use all of these skills. A typical meditation class will begin with some physical movement to activate all the joints. Specific yoga postures and breathwork bring the focus inwards. Finally allowing each individual to find their preferred sitting position – feet on the earth, sit bones on the earth, an aligned spine and space for the breath to flow easily.
Regular practice is essential – perhaps journaling or somehow making a personal commitment to repeat new skills daily.
In Dru meditation classes we explore many options to draw the mind towards our inner stillness. We look at breathwork, focus on a candle flame, an emotion or a mantra. All of these focus the mind – and with practice and exploration you will find the ones you prefer.

Like any skill, learning meditation is a journey – and if you’re at the start of yours, enjoy!!
