Possibility is where the magic happens
Often we allow ourselves to get stuck in a rut – to constantly repeat behaviours, body movements, how we hold and use our body – our thought patterns, responses and habits. Those behaviour and thoughts patterns may well be what brought us to this point – but are not necessarily the only ones we need to carry us forward.
Let’s imagine there’s a situation where you have a choice – a choice regarding how you live your life moving forward. Perhaps not even your while life – perhaps just today, or the next hour. How can yoga help?
How can yoga help?
Yoga can be regarded not just as a set of movements with breathwork and relaxation – but as a whole mind:body system. Changes in one will result in changes in the other. There is a possibility, in any situation, that changing the habitual movements and posture will affect the outcome by changing your mindset and how others perceive you.
You can choose to take your regular path and indeed that might serve you perfectly well. But perhaps you’d like to invite something new into your life – perhaps a change of some sort. That change seems possible – but doesn’t have to be a likely outcome (in your mind at this moment). Perhaps the possibility feels more like a remote one rather than a real one!
Entertaining the possibility
Let’s entertain that possibility for a moment – and consider how embodying those changes would feel once the outcome is reached. Let’s suppose, for example, that you have a desire to do some public speaking – but at the moment you’re lacking some confidence. Focusing on the blocks – the lack of confidence will have a negative reaction in your body and mind.
We could, however, entertain the possibility that a speaking engagement came up – and you walk to the podium with all the necessary qualities to deliver that speech: confidence, poise, grace, authority. We could entertain the possibility that our doubts have been removed. How does it feel to have those things – to actually embody those qualities?
Possibility is where the magic happens
Through yoga – mindful movement, breathwork, affirmations, mindset – we can remove some of the blocks and allow the new, desired emotional responses to become part of our new normal.
We can allow the possibility of change to become the change – and allow yoga to lead us towards where the magic happens.
