Happy New Year
Happy New Year – this is when we should be celebrating! When nature has warmed the earth enough for the first shoots of spring to appear and the garden begins to call for seeds to be planted. The days are longer, with lighter evenings are all of a sudden – more time.
The rhythm of the year. Spring, summer, autumn, winter – all coming and going and bringing their own joys. Spring – the beginning: new life, new enthusiasm and new starts. The start of nature’s awakening – and logically, the start of a New Year. Maybe the rest of the world feels like January 1st is a good time to re-start, but I’m sticking to April 1st.
January 1st is the depths of winter – how can we hope to feel energized and ready to kick-start new plans with any enthusiasm in January? Dark, long nights – cold days and nights – no energy. Let’s go with the flow and reset in tune with nature.
Yoga is Connection
Yoga is connection – and that being the case, in my world at least – I’m connecting with nature’s rhythm. Spring is springing, and New Year begins here.
In our Dru yoga classes at this time of year we acknowledge the awakening of our inner energy and find joy in new beginnings. Shaking off the dullness of winter. Bringing to the fore those things that have been resting in the background.
In the same way that in the winter we may plan our gardens for the active ‘growing season’ that is spring, perhaps we should acknowledge that the time between Christmas and April is a great time for planning our inner landscape, so that when the time comes, we are ready to emerge into spring with confidence and a bounce in our step.
Happy New Year
So – Happy New Year – may you find joy and peace. May your plans come to fruition as you sow the seeds of a glorious year ahead. Yoga is connection – connect with the rhythm of nature and all will feel better.
