Summer Stranded – Yoga at the Island
It was a beautiful, sunny morning for this June’s ‘Stranded – yoga at the Island’ event. Probably the most perfect day we’ve ever had, weather-wise. And even though it was an early start there were plenty tourists enjoying the space as we arrived and enjoyed an early cuppa.
Stranded
As the tide rose, we arrived on the grassy verge and watched the island stewards inviting the visitors to leave the space. There is a house on the island were a family live, but aside from this, the public are not permitted to stay on the island whilst the causeway is covered – unless part of an organized event.
Our first practice, once the visitors had left and the causeway covered and we were officially ‘stranded’ – was the prana vayus practice. Grounding ourselves in the space having worked through the flows of prana in the body – we reconvened indoors.
Dolphins
The space inside has views all around and we moved through body warm-ups into a watery journey from mountainside to seaside. Through streams, waterfalls, the stillness of the lily pond and through rivers – the many conditions of water. Through one of the windows, we could see a pod of dolphins swim by – is this the nautical equivalent of a personal fly-by of the Red Arrows? Most certainly made my day!
Relax
A break at the peak of the tide – time to enjoy the views and quiet serenity of the space. The wildlife, feeling safe, I imagine – is abundant. Resting seals, seabirds – just fabulous. A walk to the top of the lighthouse is an option too! A welcome cup of tea and a few snacks – time to chat and relax.
In our second movement session we explored self-love and appreciation. Change – making the world a better place – starts with you. The individual.
Sound bath
And to complete – a sound bath. With the backdrop of the sound of the waves, a long, delicious meander through delightful frequencies offered by the sound of Tibetan bowls, drum, hand pan, chimes. Relax – enjoy the journey.
Stranded no more
We parted ways as the tide receded and uncovered the causeway – the path back to our Sunday afternoon at home – and the crowds walking the other way on to the island.
Watch this space for the next event.
