The State of Flow
What does it mean to ‘go with the flow’ – and how is it different to ‘the state of flow’.
Go with the flow
It could be said that to ‘go with the flow’ means to be in synchronicity with the flow of life. As when a river flows from the mountain to the ocean – that continuous, steady flow that resembles our journey through life. When we choose to ‘go with the flow’ we choose not to seek resistance, but rather to greet resistance and allow ourselves to find away to negotiate it. We choose to ride the wind rather than let the wind take us where it chooses to blow.
To ride the river of life mid-stream, bypassing obstacles, staying away from the reeds at the river banks which may create a tangle – even allowing the occasional boat to jump on and ride the journey with you. The flow of life is that happy place where all is running smoothly.
All there are metaphors, of course – as, indeed, you could consider the concept of ‘going with the flow’. When you go with the flow life is good – effortless, charming, joyful.
The State of Flow
The State of Flow is an altogether different place. The State of Flow is that place where all things around are far less significant than where our attention is focused. The State of Flow is an altered state of consciousness, as it were. That place of total focus.
The State of Flow is being present right here, right now – in the moment. A place of bliss. The gaps between breaths, perhaps – the gaps between thoughts most certainly. The space between the past and the future: the present where life is happening.
You can invite the State of Flow into every single daily activity and in doing so increase the joy that every moment brings. Simply by focusing inwards – on the breath, for example. How amazing to be able to create that blissful, timeless, state of flow to order.
Over many years I have read books about the state of hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming, mindfulness, meditation – and all direct the mind towards an altered state. A state of inner focus. Effectively that State of Flow.
Flow with Dru Yoga
In Dru Yoga we use the body and breath to draw the mind towards our still-point. Mindful movement together with directed breath awareness. Our still point, where time is immaterial and we find our bliss. In Dru Yoga we allow our body and mind to ‘go with the flow’ – and in doing so we find our State of Flow.
