The diamond inside
When we are young – maybe very young – we exist as a whole, optimistic version of ourself. Untainted by expectation and dramas. Pure love.
As time goes on and we go to school, grow through puberty and through education we learn to adapt. To change our behaviours in order to fit in – to make believe, perhaps, that we are the person we need to be for the career we have chosen.
Life happens
Life happens. Good and bad. Things get thrown our way – perhaps a person we have trusted lets us down, perhaps for some reason we are left feeling ‘not good enough’ – perhaps those feeling live deep inside and re-emerge to play out in today’s world? Perhaps those emotions and sub-conscious thoughts have created an imprint within our physical body and now taunt us with pain or stiffness in the joints – or even dis-ease within the organs of the body? Often physical and mental disease has its origins in past emotional trauma. Life happens – it’s up to us to make sense of it.
Those feelings and responses lie in the unconscious mind. How do we access them to create change and better responses in the here and now? How many layers of ugly do we cover up with sparkly falseness to fit in?
Uncovering the Diamond Inside
And when the time comes – for arguments sake I’m going to suggest around the same time as retirement looms – how many of us choose to dig deep and uncover that inner child: the diamond inside? And how many of us choose to keep the child under cover and continue to live with the weight of the person life has moulded us to be? It’s personal – and you get to choose.
The path of self-discovery is paved with many treasures – and travelled, I might venture, with an open heart. Then best carriage? Yoga: Connection on all levels – body, mind, emotions and breath. Meditation: accessing the higher self through inner focus.
Dru Yoga and Meditation
In Dru yoga we work with all the layers of the self. Dru yoga and meditation helps us find our inner stillness, our inner guide, perhaps our inner child. Time, practice and the willingness to learn along the way. Find classes in and around Whitley Bay here.
