The Heart of Dru

The Heart of Dru

Dru yoga was born 43 years ago when some students at Bangor University got together and distilled the best of yoga traditions and began a movement. Those same ex-students have developed and spread the Dru ethos over the decades and still work tirelessly to shine their light to make the world a better place.

Location

The Dru Mountain Lodge in the heart of Snowdonia hosts the World Peace Flame and to this day remains the beating heart of Dru Yoga. This week the Peace flame is 25 years old!

The founders either visit regularly or reside there. Courses and retreats are formulated and run there. There is a beautiful aura of peace, love and an all-embracing hug for all those who venture there.

Kirtan Retreat

Last weekend I volunteered as a ‘helper’ on their Kirtan retreat. Along with 6 other dedicated assistants we worked behind the scenes to help ensure the guests got the most from their time at the centre. We prepared food, cleaned in the kitchen and assisted in the sessions.

Kirtan from the Bhakti branch of yoga – specifically the art of call and response – the repetition of mantras accompanied by musical instruments. Opening the throat chakra and allowing the voice to be heard is a life-affirming and freeing activity.

All this in the fabulous Welsh valley – from the doorstep we took walks by the river through the valley. Periods of sunshine with downpours managing to restrict themselves to the time we were indoors.

As always, fabulous, freshly cooked food. Always a highlight of a stay at the centre.

Just do it
